You probably won't have time to read this!

We are now making more decisions, faster and from a far more emotional perspective than we used to. This is in response to the increase in visual stimulus and messaging that now surrounds us, all day, every day.

That's why achieving an emotional engagement through engaging photography and persuasive video is so important.

The craft of visual storytelling

We've been capturing stories with photography and video since 1996. We started with 4:3 format video, DV tape, editing suites, 35mm film, and tape based sound recording. We remember tears of joy transitioning from analogue editing and printing in dark rooms to working on a laptop in Adobe Photoshop Version 1 and then Adobe Premier Pro V1 in the 1990's.

Now, thanks to advances in technology, the ability to do all of this is now available to anyone with an iPhone and a YouTube account.

The power of experience

An iPhone produces high definition video, clear audio and the ability to edit a sequence right there and then before uploading it to YouTube. All from your seat on the train.

What it won't give you is over 25 years of experience in knowing what to frame when you press the shutter release button. It won't tell you what to capture people saying on video and how to present a compelling video sequence produced to appeal directly to your chosen stakeholder group.

I just want to offer my compliments on these fantastic shots, they are really beautiful and capture both the indoor and outdoor action beautifully. We're so grateful for your offer to share them with us.

Simple can be harder than complex: you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.

Advances in technology have made difficult tasks such as photography, video and sound capture and editing easier but they have not made the complicated decisions; what to shoot, record and edit together any easier.

Only lived experience makes those easier.
